Students who visit the lab at 826NYC will first walk through the Brooklyn Superhero Supply Company, which serves as our storefront. As the name says, we will be a supply store for superheroes in need of capes, masks, utility belts, grappling hooks, and whatever else their crime fighting tasks call for. Visitors will also be able to read books, magazines, and student publications on display or explore the mysterious contents of the store, before passing through the secret passage to the more serious activities within the tutoring center.

826NYC is a nonprofit tutoring center based on the successful model of 826 Valencia, a free writing lab that began operation in San Francisco in 2002. Scheduled to open later this spring in Brooklyn, 826NYC exists to help students, ages 6-18, develop their writing skills.

Whether the students are working in the realm of fiction, nonfiction, or English as a Second Language, we are here to help them explore their love of writing. We offer free drop-in tutoring, workshops, and storytelling. We also help students create their own story collections, zines, and other publications.
