Der Schockwellenreiter verweist auf einem News Feed Reader namens BlogBridge.
BlogBridge is a new kind of Blog reader, designed for the non-technical user to discover, follow and enjoy literally hundreds of feedss without loosing their mind. BlogBridge is an Open Source project, so it is free to download and use. On this Web site you will find lots of information both for end users and for developers.
Es handelt sich dabei um eine Java-Software, die aber auch in einer speziellen Mac Version vorliegt. Die Installation ist – hmmm – etwas ungewöhnlich (zumindest für mich, der da mit Java nicht allzuviel anfangen kann). Ein Klick auf den Downloadlink und man speichert sich eine 4kb grosse Datei namens blogbridge.jnlp. nach dem Doppelclick passiert erstmal gar nichts, dann startet aber irgendwas und beginnt etwa 4 MB aus dem Netz zu saugen. Etwas irritierend ist dann doch die folgende Meldung:
Zumal danach auch kein Admin-Password abgefragt wird.
Das Programm selbst sieht aus, wie eine Java-Version von NewsFire. Ob das ganze wirklich ideal für non-technical user ist, wage ich ein wenig anzuzweifeln, so findet man in der Menüzeile nicht einmal einen Button zum Hinzufügen von eigenen Feeds. Ähnlich wie bei NewsFire ist auch die Oberfläche. Es gibt drei Spalten (Buttonleiste für favoriten und TopAktuell und verstehe ich alles nicht; eine Spalte für die Feeds und eine Spalte in der alle Beiträge eines Feeds untereinander dargestellt werden [hier meine ich Schwierigkeiten mit Sonderzeichen ausgemacht zu haben]) und darüber eine Buttonleiste.
Das ganze ist zwar ganz nett, aber durch das Java (?) doch ziemlich träge. Nach einem zweiten Klick auf das obrige File wird übrigens angeboten, eine .app zu erstellen, was bei mir jedoch fehlgeschalgen ist. Für mich noch interessant:

In general the process on Mac is the same as all the other platforms (see xxx) The BlogBridge working directory is called .bb and on your Mac the path is: /Users/ps/.bb/ where 'ps' are your initials or user name. This path is also known as ~/.bb/ This is the only directory that BlogBridge reads or writes other than the Java directories of course.
Fazit: Wenn es NewsFire nicht geben würde, dann wäre die Oberfläche ein netter neuer Ansatz gewesen, so aber (und vor allem unter Betrachtung der anderen doch sehr ordentlichen Konkurenzprodukte ) … gelöscht.
Nachtrag: Hinter dem Client steht wohl noch ein Service-Modell, was irgendwann mal umgesetzt werden soll: What is the BlogBridge Service? When users sign up to the service they will get a set of enhanced capabilities, which we hope to grow over time. The initial benefit will be to people using more than one computer. This way we will bring some of the advantages of web based applications to BlogBridge while still maintaining it's easy to use, responsive, and elegant user interface. Finde ich persönlich aber auch eher unspannend, obgleich es für andere bestimmt nicht uninteressant ist.
