Auf der Seite des französischen Entwicklerteams Sun Protection Factory erfährt man dann doch noch ein bisschen mehr:

sunShield is a GUI that enables a user to configure 'ipfw', a packet filtering based firewall that sits in the kernel. Although it was designed to be as simple as possible, giving access to (almost) full potential of ipfw on a single pane requires some knowledge about firewall rules.
sunShield however implements some templates (Web, Telnet, SSH, FTP...) that allow a complete novice to get some basic security enabled. Of course, if you are a complete novice, you might wanna stick to the front-end developped by Apple, available in the Sharing pane of the System Preferences Application.

Gut, möchte man meinen. Ein Klicki-Klicki-Bunti-Anwendung zur Konfiguration der Firewall. Ja und nein. Für den Klicki-Klicki-Bunti-MacUser ist das wohl eher eine uninteressante Anwendung, für diesen Benutzertyp reicht die Standardeinstellung der Firewall völlig aus. Wer jedoch ein bisschen mehr benötigt, wer bestimmte Ports aus bestimmten Gründen freigeben möchte, der erhält eine recht komfortable Oberfläche, um sein Regelwerk zu installieren.
